Traditional braces have been used to straighten teeth for the past 100 years. Why so long? It’s simple: they work! And now, thanks to modern orthodontic technology, patients who want to enjoy straighter smiles thanks to the effectiveness of traditional metal braces have another option: tooth-colored braces! Dr. Vo is pleased to offer these teeth-straightening appliances to her patients from throughout the Boerne, TX, area.

The Advantages of Tooth-Colored Braces
Tooth-colored braces are very similar to traditional metal braces, except that a ceramic material that is either clear or tooth-colored is used instead of the more visible traditional metal. So one obvious advantage is that they are less visible than metal braces, which makes them a popular choice for adult patients. But there are other advantages to tooth-colored braces:
- They work for all types of dental issues. As opposed to clear plastic aligner trays – another less visible means of straightening teeth – tooth-colored braces work on even the most severe cases of misalignment. Plastic aligner trays, on the other hand, are typically only recommended for patients whose teeth require minimal correction.
- You have your choice of colors, which means that Dr. Vo can provide you with ceramic braces that exactly match the color of your natural teeth – or, if you’d prefer, some entirely different color!
- They are every bit as effective as traditional metal braces; appliances that are extremely dependable and have been used by dental professionals for over 100 years because they work so well.
There are some limitations to ceramic braces as well. When compared to metal braces, they aren’t quite as durable. And although they work effectively on a wide variety of dental issues, they move teeth more slowly than metal braces do. Wearers of ceramic braces should know that they will have to take care not to stain the braces by consuming too many tooth-staining drinks (such as coffee and red wine, for example), and they may cause some gum sensitivity in certain patients. Still, many patients are opting for ceramic braces and for good reason!
