Esthetic Crown Lengthening

If you’re not happy with the appearance of your smile, talk to Dr. Alghadban about esthetic crown lengthening. Many of our Boerne, TX, area patients are dissatisfied with the shape and/or length of their front teeth. As a result, those people often end up trying not to smile, or even hiding their smile behind a cupped hand. Fortunately, there is a common periodontal procedure that can resolve this issue once and for all. It’s called esthetic crown lengthening and Dr. Alghadban is pleased to offer this service to our patient family.

What You Should Know about Esthetic Crown Lengthening

This procedure involves Dr. Alghadban reshaping excess gum and bone tissue on one or more of the patient’s teeth. The end result is that more of the tooth surface is exposed. The procedure may also involve affixing crowns to the patient’s teeth, or applying porcelain veneers to further improve the appearance. Esthetic crown lengthening results in a dramatically improved smile, and that adds up to more self-confidence and self-esteem for the patient!

The Difference between Gum Contouring and Esthetic Crown Lengthening

Some patients are unhappy with their smiles because their gum line comes too far down on the surface of their front teeth. This condition is referred to as a “gummy smile.” One of the most effective ways to treat this problem is with gum contouring, where the dentist removes a portion of the gum tissue using a laser tool, thereby exposing a greater amount of tooth surface.

But for patients who are also dissatisfied with the shape of their front teeth, simply removing excess gum tissue will not totally resolve the problem. Esthetic crown lengthening not only involves removing gum tissue, but also recontouring of the bone tissue and improving the shape and/or length of the patient’s teeth.
